Residents along West College Avenue in DeKalb County can expect to see construction crews setting up in the early days of February, as a significant water main replacement project kicks off. According to a news release from DeKalb County's government website, the old ductile iron pipes running from South Candler Street to Emeril Drive, totaling roughly 11,300 linear feet, are set for a makeover starting February 2.
The project, part of a colossal $4.27 billion capital improvement program, is looking to bolster the community's watershed system. DeKalb County officials estimate the upgrade will take around 10 months, with completion aimed before the year closes, weather permitting of course.
What does this mean for local traffic and noise levels? Well, the typical construction hours are set from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,, Monday through Friday — excluding major holidays. So increased noise and the bustle of construction vehicles will be the new norm for the area during these times.
