DeKalb County has announced the opening of several warming centers as temperatures are expected to drop. Information on locations and transportation options is available on the county's website for individuals seeking shelter from the cold.
The warming centers, set up to provide shelter during hazardous wind chills, will open at 6:30 p.m. today and remain available through tomorrow. Locations include the Exchange Park Intergenerational Center and Mason Mill Recreation Center in Decatur, Frontline Response International in Atlanta, and St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee. The county notes that these centers offer heated spaces for individuals affected by the extreme weather.
DeKalb County is providing scheduled transportation to the warming centers from multiple locations across the county. According to the county’s announcement, pickup points include the North DeKalb Senior Center, Chamblee Library, and several Walmart stores. Pickup times are scheduled from 6:05 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with initial routes expected to conclude by 7:30 p.m. and final sweeps completed by 10 p.m. on the opening day.
The operation of warming centers and transportation services is part of DeKalb County’s efforts to support individuals during extreme weather conditions. Frontline Response International, contracted by the county, is assisting with this initiative. They are facilitating placements at warming centers and providing additional services beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the day of activation. Individuals seeking these services independently can go to Frontline HQ for assistance.
