The DeKalb Perimeter Community Improvement District (DeKalb Perimeter CID), which covers a part of Dunwoody in DeKalb County, is pumping $360,000 into local public safety. This funding, spreading over the next two years, aims to boost existing real-time response technologies while introducing swanky new aerial support to the safety infrastructure.
Executive Director of the Perimeter CIDs Ann Hanlon highlighted the district's commitment to public safety, saying, "Public safety continues to be one of our highest priorities." According to a Dunwoody government announcement, Hanlon believes that such partnerships help keep the business community accessible and safe, which is crucial for making the area attractive for business, residence, and tourism. Reinforcing their allegiance with the City of Dunwoody and the local police force seems to be important for them.
The partnership between the DeKalb Perimeter CID and the Dunwoody Police Department isn't new, started back in 2024, and featured high-tech response assets like gunshot detection systems, live-view cameras, and license plate readers. Speaking to the effectiveness of these tools, Dunwoody's Real-Time Crime Center, opened in August 2024, has been central for coordinated monitoring and quick response in the area. The addition of aerial support capabilities is expected to take these efforts to a higher level.
Dunwoody's Police Chief Michael Carlson, standing amid the buzz of the Real-Time Crime Center, said that "Public safety is strongest when government and the private sector work together." In a statement obtained by the city's press release, he emphasized the integral role of technology in proactive policing and crime prevention. This funding from the Perimeter CID is a testament to their shared dedication to innovation.
The DeKalb Perimeter CID plays a significant part in the broader Perimeter CIDs' mission to bolster safety, accessibility, and economic growth in one of the Southeast's major economic hotspots. It includes a host of major employers like Insight Global, and State Farm, and landmarks such as Perimeter Mall and High Street. Brian Smith, Chair of the DeKalb Perimeter CID Board, representing Brand Properties, stressed in a recent public statement, “This investment reflects our commitment to ensuring that employees, visitors, and customers feel secure throughout the district. It is one more way we are helping to create a strong and resilient business community.”
