The Georgia Department of Corrections has a new leader stepping up at Macon State Prison. Delvin Peoples, previously the Special Assistant to the Warden, is set to quickly assume the role of Warden on January 16, as confirmed by a recent announcement from Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. Peoples will be in charge of a substantial staff and an inmate population of approximately 1,744 male offenders.

In a statement obtained by GDC's official press release, Oliver praised Peoples for his leadership and dedication, remarking, "Delvin’s leadership experience and work ethic have proven to be an invaluable asset to the agency." Oliver further expressed his confidence that Peoples’ "vast correctional knowledge will help ensure success for both the staff and offenders at Macon SP."

Peoples started his career in corrections back in 2006, initially serving as a Correctional Officer at Lee State Prison. His career path has been diverse, including roles as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Tactical Squad Commander, and other leadership positions focused on recruitment, retention, and security within the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Prior to his new appointment, Peoples had rapidly worked his way up the ranks, taking on the roles of Assistant Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center, Superintendent at Albany Transitional Center, and then moving to Calhoun SP as the Deputy Warden of Security. He stepped into his most recent position at Macon SP in 2024. In preparation for his upward trajectory in the corrections field, Peoples completed a series of extensive trainings spanning from Basic Correctional Officer Training to more advanced programs focusing on security and warden preparation.
