A mail truck and a sedan collided in Parkland earlier this month, resulting in a fire that engulfed the postal vehicle. The incident, which took place on January 8 on the 10600 block of Park Ave S, prompted swift action from law enforcement and good Samaritans, leading to a heroic rescue before emergency services arrived on the scene.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog, the collision occurred around 12:10 p.m. when the deputy, the first on the scene, saw that the mail truck driver was in peril. Aside from pulling the injured driver to safety, the deputy and a female bystander worked to extinguish the flames. Their efforts stand as a testament, to the courage and compassion found within the community.
The impact of the crash left the back-seat passenger of the sedan in serious condition. Both individuals, the driver of the mail truck and the sedan's passenger, required medical attention and were taken to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries was significant enough to warrant concern and immediate care, although details of their current condition were not provided in the statement from the sheriff's department.
In the aftermath of the crash, officials have expressed their gratitude for the civilian who stopped to help and for the actions of Central Pierce Fire. "Thank you to the female bystander who stopped to help and to Central Pierce Fire for all your great work," the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department blog post read.
