Cleveland Heights' very own Dobama Theater is set to bring a new play titled "The Heart Sellers" to the stage, running from January 29 through February 22. Those interested in witnessing this story of hope, friendship, and the immigrant experience can secure their seats by visiting the theater's ticketing page online.
The plot unfolds on a Thanksgiving Day in the year 1973, anchoring the audience in a tale of two young Asian immigrants, Jane and Luna, who've happened to cross paths in a grocery store. Amid the holiday, they find themselves in Luna's modest apartment, trying to make sense of their unfamiliar surroundings. It is apparent that the two women are navigating more than just the traditions of a new country; they're learning how to thoroughly establish themselves in a world vastly different from their homelands. According to the City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio - City Hall social media post, the characters are bonded by shared challenges, such as being "23, recent Asian immigrants, and each have hardworking absentee husbands."
During their shared holiday, they engage in conversations over wine and a "questionable frozen turkey," according to the City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio - City Hall's post. Throughout their interaction, Jane and Luna divulge their aspirations, ranging from visiting Disneyland to mastering the art of driving. The play aims to capture the essence of their dreams and fears as they embark on the arduous journey of making a new country their home.
