Downtown Dallas’ Arts District just got a little less cheesy. Pizza Leila’s compact Flora Street shop has shut its doors, cutting off a familiar slice stop for museum regulars and office workers on the hunt for a quick lunch. The brand isn’t disappearing entirely, though: its NorthPark outpost is still turning out pies, and delivery remains an option, even as the post-pandemic Flora Street storefront goes quiet.
Lease Decision Ends Flora Street Run
According to the Dallas Observer, Pizza Leila opted not to renew the lease at its Flora Street "mothership." A representative told the paper that the NorthPark Mall location remains open. The Observer pointed out that decisions like this are becoming increasingly common among locally owned spots weighing the costs of hanging on to downtown locations.
Official Page Now Lists 'Temporarily Closed'
On paper, the Flora Street shop has not been declared gone for good. Pizza Leila’s official downtown location page currently shows the hours as "Temporarily Closed," a status still posted on the restaurant’s website. Anyone checking business hours online will see that message on Pizza Leila's site.
A Pandemic Pop-Up That Grew Fast
The concept started in 2020 as a to-go operation run out of Sloane’s Corner, when chef Ji Kang began selling Sicilian-style square slices to keep staff employed during the pandemic, and it later leveled up into a proper storefront on Flora Street in March 2023, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. Closures like this have been cited as part of a broader pattern of downtown retailers and restaurants rethinking their leases, a trend the Dallas Observer has highlighted in recent coverage.
