A concerted effort by multiple law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of 22 individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs, including a substantial amount of fake fentanyl pills in Bedford County, Tennessee. The multi-agency investigation, spearheaded by the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force (JDDTF) and supported by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as well as local partners, was a response to a spike in overdoses associated with counterfeit fentanyl, according to a statement released by the Shelbyville Police Department.

The investigation originated in response to a rise in overdoses reportedly tied to blue, Percocet-like tablets labeled with “M” on one side and “30” on the other. It escalated, leading to a collaborative effort involving the JDDTF, DEA Special Agent Timothy Miller and various local law enforcement figures including Deputy Tylar Prosser, K-9 Ranger and detectives from the Shelbyville Police Department. Across the summer of 2024, the operation's scope broadened, integrating efforts from multiple agencies and resulting in multiple enforcement actions including controlled purchases, traffic stops, fugitive arrests, and the execution of search warrants.

Throughout this extensive operation, authorities conducted 23 controlled purchases and eight traffic stops, among other tactical responses that led to the apprehension of individuals allegedly linked to the distribution of the illicit substances. The combined actions netted 2,366 counterfeit “M30” fentanyl pills, 14.5 grams of fentanyl powder, and additional drugs including cocaine, MDMA, crystal methamphetamine, psilocybin-infused candy bars, and marijuana. Investigators also seized nine firearms, three of which had been reported stolen. The totals reflect a broad and concerning array of narcotics spread within the community.
