Dunedin residents will face a new surcharge on reclaimed water starting February 1. The city says the dry-season fee, in effect until June 30, will charge $2 for every 1,000 gallons used over each property’s allotted amount. This move is part of a broader water conservation push in the area; the Southwest Florida Water Management District had already declared a Phase I Water Shortage on November 18, 2025, as the region grapples with a serious lack of rainfall that left a 13-inch deficit in the normal averages, as revealed by the City of Dunedin
To manage dry spells, the city may temporarily suspend reclaimed water services to protect reserves. Residents are advised to check irrigation systems for faults, adjust timers to the approved watering schedule, and follow city irrigation guidelines.
Dunedin’s Water Division is conducting its annual reclaimed water inspections, ensuring irrigation systems remain separate from drinking water lines. After each inspection, residents receive a “Reclaimed Water Report Card,” which can also be requested in advance by calling the Water Division.
