The Cities of Dunwoody and Peachtree Corners are seeking public input on Phase II of the Winters Chapel Path project. An open house is scheduled for February 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church, 5105 Winters Chapel Road. The project proposes a nearly 0.6-mile bike and pedestrian path extending from Peeler Road to Charmant Place.

Phase II of the Winters Chapel Path project will connect to the existing pathway in Dunwoody and link with Peachtree Corners’ 0.2‑mile segment, forming an important north-south corridor. The plan includes intersection improvements such as enhanced lighting and landscaping, a reconfigured southbound right turn at Peeler Road to slow traffic, and a new signalized intersection at Sumac Drive to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians. Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith stated that the project’s goal is to improve safety and expand mobility options for those who use Winters Chapel daily, according to the City of Dunwoody.

The Winters Chapel Path project has been in the works for several years, beginning with the 2015 Winters Chapel Road Area Study and continuing through multiple transportation plans. The 2023 Dunwoody Trail Master Plan reinforced the community’s interest in safer, more connected routes for pedestrians and cyclists. The city has secured funding to support the project, including $1.5 million in 2023 for Phase II construction and an additional $750,000 in federal funding for design slated for 2025.

With the final field survey completed in August 2025 and the Concept Report approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation in October, the project is moving into the engineering design phase, with construction anticipated to begin in 2029. The open house will feature information boards and discussions for attendees to explore at their own pace, providing a hands-on opportunity for community engagement. Spanish translation services will also be available during the event.
