San Antonio City Councilmembers Teri Castillo (District 5) and Marc Whyte (District 10) have filed a Council Consideration Request to create an online accountability dashboard for the proposed downtown Spurs arena project. The dashboard would allow the public to track spending tied to the nearly billion-dollar investment and monitor whether the Spurs organization meets its community commitments, according to the City of San Antonio.
Castillo said the goal is to provide clear public access to how funds are used, stating, “The public expects the highest level of transparency when there are nearly a billion of their dollars at stake.” She said the platform would help San Antonio and Bexar County residents track expenditures and confirm that promises made as part of the project are fulfilled, as reported by the City of San Antonio.
A proposed Spurs Arena Project Accountability Dashboard would provide a real-time public overview of the project’s finances, construction progress, and compliance with community benefits agreements. Whyte described the proposal as, “This dashboard is a transparent, community-centered accountability tool that can set a new standard for how major projects are monitored and reported moving forward.” The request from Castillo and Whyte is currently on the Governance Committee’s agenda for further discussion, despite their differing positions on the arena project. Details on when the committee will review the proposal are available on the City’s Council Consideration Requests webpage, with updates expected in the coming weeks, as stated by the City of San Antonio.
