An East Bay Regional Park District Police Officer was dispatched to Leona Canyon Regional Park for a welfare check on an individual reported to be acting erratically, potentially under the influence. The situation escalated when the officer made contact, and the suspect fled after providing a false name, according to the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department's Facebook page.
The foot pursuit proved short-lived, as the officer apprehended the individual, who, upon subsequent identification, had outstanding warrants totaling $417,500. Among these warrants were charges such as assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting an officer.
Once in custody, the suspect was also found to be linked to reckless evading an officer in a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department noted, "the suspect was taken into custody without further incident—proving once again that running only adds cardio, not a clean getaway."
