
Edmonds was the scene of an alert this morning when South County Fire crews rushed to Holy Rosary Church due to reports of a gas smell. The incident, reported at around 8:00 a.m., found the church empty, luckily avoiding potential exposure to congregants. South County Fire's social media post detailed their response, confirming presence of natural gas and subsequent ventilation of the building to ensure safety.
Complementing the fire unit's efforts, Puget Sound Energy was on scene, responsible for investigating and securing the church premises. This swift action enabled the Sunday Mass to be swiftly relocated to an alternate building, an adjustment that was crucial for maintaining the routine and safety of the parish."We’re grateful for the quick actions that helped keep the community safe," said an excerpt from the South County Fire post. The hazard averted, serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance required in times where predictability seems a shifting shadow.
As part of their community service, South County Fire reiterated the importance of recognizing signs of a gas leak which includes: a sulfur or "rotten egg" smell, a hissing or whistling sound near a gas lines, and symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or headaches. They urge anyone suspecting a gas leak to not hesitate but act immediately: leave the area and call 9-1-1 from a safe distance.
