The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has recently joined forces with the National Flag Foundation and other national and local organizations in a campaign designed to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence. The "Flag Sojourn 250" campaign involves the relay of a single American flag across the country, ending in Washington, D.C., in July 2026, a historic moment for the nation.
Launched on June 14, 2025, the flag's journey is a commemorative gesture, honoring those who served and sacrificed for the nation's ideals. After an international circuit, which included visits to 26 American military cemeteries across ten countries, the flag has returned stateside, a detail noted by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The recent Colorado Capitol ceremony saw members of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard standing in respect to the service members the flag honors, continuing the flag's nationwide passage. "It is a privilege to stand with our fellow sheriffs, veterans, and community partners in honoring this historic journey of the American flag," El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal said in a statement obtained by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. "This sojourn represents the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of generations of Americans who believed in the promise of freedom."
