El Paso drivers, mark your calendars for an upcoming infrastructure update. This Sunday, January 25th, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) El Paso district is slated to open the EB Mesa exit following a 24-hour closure for final touches. The closure will facilitate the last stages of construction, including barrier removal, riprap placement, metal beam guard fence installation, and striping, as detailed by the Texas Department of Transportation. For drivers travelling from Redd to Mesa, the revamped exit will also introduce a final three-lane configuration.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Texas Department of Transportation highlighted the expected improvements: "The EB Mesa exit is expected to open Sun., Jan. 25. Plan for 24hr closure. Final 3 lane configuration from Redd to Mesa too!" Eager motorists to see the changes can preview the new exit layout, which will be located 1.25 miles sooner than the original, offering a more direct path and potentially easing traffic flow in the area.
For those who rely on this route for their daily commutes, or anyone planning to travel through El Paso on the 25th, preparations for an alternative route during the closure period will be necessary. The exit's closure, albeit brief, is a reminder of the ever-present evolution of our roadways, reflective of the growth and shifting needs of our communities.
