
An elderly couple and their dog lost their lives in a house fire on Myersville Road in Green this past Saturday, authorities confirmed. The Green Fire Department received the emergency call near 5 p.m., finding the elderly residents and extracting them from the blazing home. They were rushed to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries, detailed Cleveland19 News. While the couple did not survive the incident, firefighters reported that four cats managed to escape the fatal fire, though tragically, a dog was also discovered deceased inside the residence.
Investigation into the devastating event by the State Fire Marshal's Office, with the assistance by Green Fire investigators, is ongoing. There was confirmation that two other adults resided in the home but were not present during the time of the fire, as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal. The identity of the couple and the two adults has not been released to the public at this time.
Responding to the emergency were multiple fire departments, including units from Coventry, Greentown, Lakemore, Jackson Township, Springfield Township, and Uniontown, providing mutual aid in the tragedy. The Summit County Sheriff's Office also lent their response to the scene. In the wake of the event, the American Red Cross stepped in to assist the other residents who had been displaced due to the fire, as mentioned in initial reports by FOX8 News.
