Euless trash troubles could soon cost Republic Services, after Christmas-week misses left some blocks lined with bagged leaves and household garbage. City leaders say they have activated contract enforcement, sending a certified notice to the hauler while staff reviews service data to see what penalties might apply.
City staff reported that numerous streets did not get picked up after the Christmas holiday and that crews have been working to catch up. Republic representatives told local officials that unusually heavy volumes of bagged leaves, paired with holiday schedules and limited landfill hours, kept some routes from finishing on time and apologized for the disruption, according to Bedford.
Officials Move To Invoke Contract Penalties
At a town hall last Thursday, Euless City Manager Chris Barker said the city sent a certified letter to Republic Services to start the penalty process and that officials are reviewing route performance to determine fines. Under the city’s contract, performance penalties can be assessed at $25 for a first failure and $50 for a subsequent failure at the same address within 30 days, as reported by Fort Worth Report.
Republic Services’ Response
In a statement relayed to city staff, Republic Services said crews circled back to collect bagged waste the next day or within a few days and characterized the delays as minor. The hauler cited the surge in volume and holiday schedules for the slowdown, apologized, and said crews were prioritizing household trash while working through the backlog, according to the city notice, per Bedford.
Residents Say Neighborhoods Were Overwhelmed
Reporting and city officials say some addresses stacked 60 or more leaf bags at the curb, and a north Euless cul-de-sac was photographed with about 125 bags. In some spots, the material sat for several days before it was finally hauled away. The timing added a political wrinkle: Mayor Linda Martin announced at the town hall that she would not seek reelection, and the trash disruption landed just as officials gear up for municipal races, as noted by Fort Worth Report.
How To Report A Missed Pickup
Residents whose trash or yard waste was skipped are asked to leave materials at the curb and report the miss so crews can return. Republic’s local customer service number and collection guidelines are listed on the city’s garbage and recycling page. Filing for the city’s 2026 municipal elections opened in mid-January, and voters will decide races for mayor and Council Places 2 and 4 in May, according to the City of Euless’ candidate information and sanitation pages (City of Euless and City of Euless). Customers can also call Republic’s local number at 817-332-7301.
