A Fayetteville man, Muwsay Ibn Ibrahim Tulu, was convicted on charges of drug possession and firearms violations on Fort Bragg military base. The U.S. Department of Justice reported that a federal jury in Wilmington found him guilty on all counts after the trial.
On July 13, 2023, military police found Tulu incapacitated behind the wheel of a running vehicle, with illegal drugs and a loaded firearm nearby. The drugs included fentanyl and cocaine, and the weapon was identified as a ghost gun, a firearm without a serial number. Tulu’s defense argued he was a user, not an armed distributor, but the jury reached a different conclusion.
U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle recognized the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies, including the Fort Bragg Police, Army CID, ATF, and Fayetteville Police Department, in the investigation. He stated that authorities will continue efforts to ensure safety in Eastern North Carolina.
Months after Tulu’s initial arrest, a search of a residence connected to him uncovered additional firearms, illegal drugs, and items related to drug trafficking, including scales and ledgers. Tulu’s conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a possible sentence of up to life in prison. Sentencing is expected later this year.
