Commuters in the Philadelphia area experienced reduced visibility on the morning of today as a dense fog advisory remained in effect, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory, extended until 10 a.m. EST, noted visibility could be limited to a quarter to a half mile in parts of central and northern Delaware, northeast Maryland, and portions of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Travelers were advised to use caution, as the dense fog advisory stated that low visibility could create hazardous driving conditions. The advisory recommended that drivers reduce speed, use headlights, and allow additional following distance. Forecasts indicated the fog was expected to dissipate later in the day, with partly sunny conditions and a high near 52 degrees.
After the fog dissipated, conditions were expected to become partly sunny with mild daytime temperatures. Forecasts called for partly cloudy skies in the evening, with a low near 34 degrees and west winds of 5 to 10 mph. Looking ahead, Thursday was expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 50 degrees, with light northwest winds easing to calm conditions by the afternoon.
Clear conditions were not expected to persist, as forecasts called for a chance of showers on Friday. The outlook included mostly cloudy skies, a high near 57 degrees, and south winds of 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation was estimated at 50%, with rainfall totals expected to be less than one-tenth of an inch.
The NWS forecast indicated that showers could continue into the weekend, with a high likelihood of rain on Saturday and additional rainfall possible into early Sunday. Conditions early next week were expected to trend drier with some sunshine, though forecasts showed the potential for another round of showers.
