The City of Forest Park is extending an open invitation to its residents for a day of remembrance and community service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Supported by the Fifth Third Foundation, the town will hold the Fifth Third Community Day, which provides free admission to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center on this federal holiday.
Designed to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, the event will include an array of activities suitable for all ages. A highlight of the offerings is the “Jubilation!” exhibit, which spotlights the storied Fisk Jubilee Singers. In addition to exploring the various exhibits, attendees can participate in special programs and talks, and connect with local service-oriented organizations. Furthermore, as posted on the city's social media, there will be a community blood drive organized by Hoxworth Blood Center from noon to 5 p.m.
Festivities will commence at 12 p.m., with a notable opportunity for blood donors to receive rewards for their vital contributions. "Donors receive a FREE UC puffy vest + $10 Kroger gift card while supplies last," the City of Forest Park's social media post clarified, highlighting the tangible thank-you gifts provided to participants in the blood drive. The event encourages advance registration, though walk-ups are also welcome.
