Former NYPD officers Julio Alcantara-Santiago and Christian Garcia have been sentenced following guilty pleas to sexually abusing an intoxicated woman. According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, Alcantara-Santiago, 42, was sentenced to six years of probation, is required to register as a sex offender, and must participate in a sex offender treatment program. Garcia, 34, was sentenced to one year of probation and is also required to complete a similar treatment program.

The case stems from an incident on July 9, 2023, when the victim was heavily intoxicated after drinking with the defendants at a Bronx nightclub. Surveillance footage showed the two men helping the victim from the nightclub into an apartment building. Subsequent investigation found that medical tests detected DNA from both Alcantara-Santiago and Garcia on the victim, with a larger proportion linked to Alcantara-Santiago.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Ralph Fabrizio issued the sentences last Friday. District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said the defendants took advantage of a woman who was intoxicated and unable to consent, noting that both have prior criminal records, one is required to register with the state sex offender registry, and both were dismissed from the NYPD. The investigation was conducted by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and the Bronx Special Victims Squad.

Assistant District Attorney Shaylin French of the Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau led the prosecution, assisted by Trial Counsel Astrid Borgstedt under the supervision of Johanna Hernandez and Alexandra Militano. The proceedings were also overseen by Mimi Mairs, Deputy Chief of the Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau, the bureau’s Chief, and, overall, by Adrienne Giunta, Deputy Chief of the Special Victims Division, and Joseph Muroff, Chief of the Special Victims Division. District Attorney Clark recognized the contributions of the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and the Bronx Special Victims Squad in the investigation.
