Fredericksburg’s main workout hub is about to feel a whole lot bigger. The Create Healthy Wellness Center is gearing up for a multimillion-dollar expansion that will add courts, an indoor track and a much larger pool, while carving out more room for swim lessons, therapy and fitness classes. The upgrade is pitched as a long-term answer to rising demand across the Texas Hill Country.
The Plan And The Price Tag
In a March 26, 2025 press release, Create Healthy announced that its volunteer board had signed off on a $35 million renovation and expansion of the Wellness Center. According to the foundation’s announcement via Create Healthy, the project will bring a six‑lane swimming pool with a therapy pool, an indoor track, a multi‑use sports court, two new fitness rooms and upgraded locker rooms.
Create Healthy CEO Jayne Pope said the investment reflects the foundation’s long-term commitment to health and wellness in the Hill Country, with the Wellness Center serving as a cornerstone of that effort.
Timeline And Scale
As reported by MySA, a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing lays out the basic construction schedule and size of the project. The filing indicates the expansion will add nearly 50,000 square feet of new space and upgrade more than 22,000 square feet of the current facility.
According to that state filing, construction is projected to start March 31, 2026, with work scheduled to finish in late November 2028. MySA notes those dates are tentative and could shift.
What Members Will See During Work
The foundation says the Wellness Center will stay open throughout the project, with phased construction intended to keep access to classes, equipment and the pool available while work is underway. On its expansion page, Create Healthy adds that the center offers free memberships for Fredericksburg first responders and that the redesign is meant to expand programming space rather than cut services during the build.
When phases are complete, members are expected to see new cardio and strength areas, two additional fitness rooms and refreshed locker rooms. For booking details or membership questions, patrons are directed to the wellness pages or the front desk.
Why It Matters For Fredericksburg
For Fredericksburg, a tourism‑heavy Hill Country town with more retirees and young families arriving each year, the Wellness Center upgrade is a rare, anchor-scale investment in local health infrastructure. A larger pool and therapy area could increase capacity for rehab and senior programming, while the new courts and indoor track give youth sports and adult leagues more all-weather options.
The foundation already operates several grant and community programs in the region, and leaders say the expansion is intended to work alongside that philanthropic footprint. City officials and nearby businesses are likely to keep a close eye on how construction traffic and parking are handled in the coming years.
Next Steps
State filings cited by MySA currently list March 31, 2026 as the construction start date and late November 2028 as the target completion, with the caveat that permitting and market conditions could alter that schedule. Create Healthy says it will share updates through member communications and its wellness pages as construction phases are finalized.
