February in Hillsborough County is shaping up to be more than just about valentines and chocolates. The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative is rolling out a free slate of programs guaranteed to pique the interests of every family member. From book discussions to star gazing, they're aiming to both educate and entertain the community.
For the kids, "Chasing Vermeer" enters the fold next Monday at the New Tampa Regional Library to spark imaginations and maybe to secretly cultivate the art detectives of tomorrow. But it's not just bookworms who get to have all the fun. Next Thursday, a program dubbed "Hip-Hippo-Hooray!"—and yes, it's as adorable as it sounds—introduces children to the hefty world of hippos and crafts at the Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library.
Adults aren't left out either. The series on Florida Friendly Landscaping inspires to convert green thumbs into greener landscapes, even if that landscape's a tiny balcony overlooking a bustling Tampa street. This series kicks off next Wednesday at the Charles J. Fendig Public Library. And those heady about constellations can sign up for "Star Gazers: An Introduction to the Night Sky" at the Brandon Regional Library on February 17
Integration of STEAM learning—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics—is key, with programs like "Challenge Island: Roller Coaster Ridge" on February 12 ready to spark the sort of teamwork and problem-solving skills that one day might just propel a kid from Tampa to tech titan status. Also, teens hunting for gigs can get a leg up with "Job Help for Teens" on the same day at the New Tampa Regional Library.
According to the official news release on Hillsborough County's website, registration is recommended but not required for these programs. The release was keen to note, "The views expressed in these programs are those of the presenters and do not necessarily reflect the official policies, positions, or opinions of Hillsborough County." Full details can be found by calling (813) 273-3652 or visiting the library's official website.
Social media savvy residents and visitors can also "Be social! Like the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System on Facebook and follow @TampaHillsLib on Instagram, X, and YouTube," as stated in the release.
