
A weekend evening in one of Frisco’s busiest commercial corridors ended in tragedy when a 7-year-old child was pulled from a retention pond behind businesses near Preston Road and State Highway 121 on May 31, 2025. Divers recovered the child, and Frisco Fire/EMS rushed the child to the Children’s Hospital in Plano, where the child was later pronounced dead. According to a city news release, officers and Frisco Fire personnel were dispatched at about 8:46 p.m. after multiple callers reported a child in the retention pond behind businesses on the northwest corner of Preston Road and SH 121. Divers entered the water and, with help from Texas DPS air support, Lewisville Fire and Allen police K9 teams, located and pulled the child from the pond at approximately 9:19 p.m. Frisco Fire/EMS transported the child to Children’s Hospital in Plano, where the child was pronounced dead around 9:50 p.m., as detailed by the City of Frisco.
Investigators Report No Signs Of Foul Play
Investigators say they do not suspect foul play and that no criminal charges are being filed, according to The Dallas Morning News. Police are still piecing together the timeline and are asking anyone who may have seen or heard something to contact the department directly or submit an anonymous tip through its app or tip line.

Television crews at the scene reported that the child had been reported missing from a nearby restaurant before being found in the pond. Responders also discovered a pair of shoes near the water’s edge, according to FOX 4. Officials have not released the child’s name and have declined to provide additional details about how the child ended up in the pond.
