Heads up, Gainesville residents: if you've been stocking up on kerosene for your heaters and lamps, you might want to check where it came from. Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper has alerted the public about potentially dangerous kerosene sold at Jasmine Petroleum Inc. located at 4163 Price Rd, Gainesville, GA. Specifically, kerosene purchased on or after January 17, is not to be used due to the threat of possible contamination with gasoline, which can lead to explosive or fiery consequences. "Anyone who has purchased kerosene from this location should not use it under any circumstance and can visit the store to get a refund for their purchase," Harper said in a statement obtained by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
Upon a routine inspection, inspectors from the Georgia Department of Agriculture located the contamination. Following this discovery, they placed a “stop-sale” order on the kerosene pump at Jasmine Petroleum Inc. In his statement, Harper underlined the commitment of the Fuel & Measures Division in upholding the safety of the Georgian populace and the integrity of the fuel supply, which the “stop sale” order strongly reflects.
For anyone who has obtained kerosene from the said location, the path forward is clear: avoid usage and return to the store for a refund. As gasoline contamination in kerosene can be incredibly volatile, the dangers posed are not worth the risk. The afflicted kerosene pump will not be operational again until a thorough cleaning of both the tank and lines has transpired. Moreover, a new shipment will undergo testing and require the nod of approval from the Agriculture Department before it can be sold to consumers.
