
The Georgia Department of Corrections has a new Deputy Director of Women’s Services, and it's a familiar face from within the ranks. The department announced that Myra Orsborn, currently serving as Warden at Whitworth Women’s Facility, will be stepping into the role on January 16, 2026. Orsborn's task in her new position is to oversee gender responsive initiatives and ensure the deployment of evidence-based strategies for female offenders.
Having been a part of the Georgia Department of Corrections since 1997, Orsborn brings considerable experience to the table, she ascended through the ranks starting as a Correctional Officer and her latest stint as Warden speaks to her leadership prowess while "Myra has been a dedicated leader in each position she has held during her twenty-nine-year tenure with the agency," Commissioner Tyrone Oliver expressed confidence in Orsborn's abilities, stating, “I am confident her vast correctional knowledge will benefit the staff and offenders as she takes the next step in her leadership journey as Assistant Director of Female Services," as mentioned on the Georgia Department of Corrections website.
Prior to her new designation, Orsborn's career was marked by consistent progression - from a Correctional Officer to serving as a Counselor in 2009, then onto roles such as Chief Counselor, Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment; and Superintendent at Metro Transitional Center before her promotion to Warden at Whitworth Women’s Facility in 2023 which holds its own significance as a stepping stone to her current promotion.
Orsborn's qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Carolina University and a slew of departmental trainings such as Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, and Correctional Leadership Institute among others her commitment to education and training shines through her career.
