Historic Downtown Mansfield is getting a new hangout spot, as Geyer Commons officially opens with a three-day grand opening weekend from Friday, Feb. 27, through Sunday, March 1. The city is rolling out a full slate of festivities to show off the park's event lawns, small-business cottages, and programmable splash pad, with a mix of live music, food trucks, family games, and a makers-style cottage market.

Mansfield Parks & Recreation laid out the weekend schedule with today's ribbon cutting from 5 to 9 p.m., a larger vendor market, and free classes tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and street pickleball plus shopping on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The post also notes that the Cottage Market will operate every weekend once the park is up and running, according to Mansfield Parks & Recreation on Facebook.

Geyer Commons sits on city-owned land at 605 E. Broad, on the site of Mansfield's first ballfield. Phase 1A brings in the programmable splash pad, maker-market cottages and open lawns meant to host concerts and festivals. The City of Mansfield describes the project as an eastern gateway to the historic downtown core, with future phases slated to preserve relocated or reconstructed historic structures, per the City of Mansfield.

Weekend lineup and regular hours

Friday night is set up as the official welcome, centered on the ribbon cutting, live music and food trucks. Tomorrow, the park shifts into market mode, with an expanded vendor lineup, free classes and a DJ. Sunday keeps things a bit more laid back, featuring more shopping and a street pickleball setup for anyone looking to play between browsing sessions.

Once Geyer Commons is fully open, the Cottage Market will keep regular hours, operating Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., according to Historic Downtown Mansfield.

Local small businesses move in

The first wave of cottage vendors brings a mix of local flavor and retail into the park. City announcements list a dozen initial tenants, including Gilda Wonders, Mama Moore's Gourmet Popcorn, Same Page Bookshop and The Levant Bakery. Interest in the compact vendor cottages has been strong, with more than 80 people reaching out about leasing space during construction, the Mansfield Record reported.

Getting there and more information

Visitors will be able to use on-street parking and public lots around Historic Downtown, with additional access to nearby MISD parking lots on weekends outside of school hours, per Historic Downtown Mansfield.
