Google is getting ready to plant its flag inside The Galleria, lining up a 4,500-square-foot retail store with a roughly $2 million interior build-out slated for this spring. The new shop would drop the tech giant into an uptown Houston mall that already packs in national electronics sellers and luxury brands.
The latest details surfaced in a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which states that Google plans to take over Suite B3840 at 5085 Westheimer Drive and add new walls, fixtures, lighting, and ductwork as part of the remodel, according to the Houston Chronicle. The filing pegs the interior renovation at about $2 million and estimates construction will begin in mid-March and wrap by early July.
Second Texas location
If it opens, the Houston shop would be Google's second retail location in Texas. The company already lists a store at Domain Northside in Austin on its locations page, according to Google's store page, and the Austin outpost opened May 30, 2025, as reported by 9to5Google.
Why The Galleria matters
The Galleria is one of Houston's largest shopping centers. Simon Property Group lists the mall's address as 5085 Westheimer and outlines guest services for the center. Existing tenants already include Apple and Samsung, among others, according to the Houston Chronicle, helping explain why Google would want a piece of that foot traffic.
What to expect in-store
Google retail locations typically showcase Pixel phones, Chromebooks, and Nest and Fitbit devices, along with in-person support such as repairs, set-up appointments and workshops, according to Google's store page. The company's push into physical retail started with a Chelsea flagship in 2021 and has expanded gradually into markets where hands-on demos and local programming are expected to help drive device sales.
Industry reporting that tracked the state filing has echoed the build-out numbers, and commercial real-estate outlets have flagged the project as part of a broader flurry of mall activity. Realty News Report likewise pointed to the TDLR filing and the estimated $2 million interior budget. As always, timelines tied to early filings can shift, and we will be watching permits and official announcements for updates as the spring remodel window approaches.
