
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made a strategic move in the field of aerospace and aviation by appointing Col. Omar A. Perea to the state's Aerospace and Aviation Advisory Committee. The Office of the Texas Governor announced yesterday that Perea's term, starting immediately, is set to expire on September 1, 2027. Perea is expected to play a crucial role in bolstering Texas’ efforts to attract and maintain aerospace and aviation jobs and investments.
Coming from a strong military background, Col. Perea serves as the chief of Innovation and Prototyping for the United States Space Force's Operations Locations in El Paso and College Station. With experience from being the deputy director of the Warfighting Integration Office at Space Systems Command, Col. Perea brings to the table an extensive skill set. As the Governor's office informed, tasked with enhancing battle management command, control, and communications, he is a seasoned veteran in space and technological warfare strategies.
Before his appointment, Col. Perea had been credited for his leadership as Commander of the 19 Space Operations Squadron at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado. His team was responsible for overseeing the operations and progressive modernization of the nation's Global Positioning System satellite constellation. This initiative was instrumental in maintaining a critical component of global navigation and domestic security infrastructure.
Col. Perea's illustrious military career dates back to his commission from the Officer Training School in 2002 at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Having served in various capacities within the Air Force, Space Force, and the Reserve, his assignments have spanned roles such as Congressional Liaison and Deputy Operations Group Commander. Noteworthy is his tenure as a Satellite Operations Instructor, where Col. Perea, engaging with the future of aerospace technology, has shaped up-and-coming servicemen and women.
