
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed three members to the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors, which oversees affordable housing for low-income Texans. Lemuel Williams, Jr. will serve as chairman, with David Lewis and Valerie Vargas Cardenas as board members. Their terms run through February 1, 2031, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Williams, an Austin tech leader, has served on boards including Amplify Credit Union and the LBJ Presidential Library’s Future Forum. He holds degrees in Geography and Information Systems from the University of Texas at Austin, bringing both technological and geographic expertise to the board.
Lewis also hails from Austin, where he presides over Montlake Capital Management, LLC. With deep financial roots grounded through a business administration educational track from UT Austin, topped with an MBA from Southern Methodist University, his expertise articulates a tale of fiscal responsibility within housing affordability discussions.
Cardenas, from San Juan, works at Texas National Bank in mortgage banking and is involved in local planning and zoning. She is also a member of real estate and builders associations, bringing housing industry experience to the board.
The new appointments aim to support affordable housing initiatives in Texas, bringing diverse expertise to the board.
