
Last night at the Dallas Police Department's Assist the Officer Foundation’s 32nd annual Cops' Cop banquet, Governor Greg Abbott was presented with the “Back the Blue” Award. The honor comes in recognition of his staunch support for law enforcement, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor. Governor Abbott seized the opportunity to address the officers present, asserting, "You represent the very best of our great state, and Texas is better today because of what you do every day."
At an event emceed by CBS11 news reporter Amelia Mugavero, Abbott took to the stage to not just receive accolades but also reaffirm his commitment to law enforcement. According to the Office of the Texas Governor report, he assured them, "I just want you to know you have a governor who has your back, and together, we will keep Texas safe and secure." Abbott went on to proudly mention his recent legislative success aimed at overhauling bail policies, a move designed to halt the 'revolving door' for violent criminals.
Among others, Sergeant Ed Lujan, Chairman of the Assist the Officer Foundation, and Dallas Police Officer James Parnell stood with the Governor, symbolizing a united front of law enforcement leadership.
