In a move that cements the makeup of the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, Governor Greg Abbott has announced the reappointment of three members, their terms now stretching into 2031. Sue Allen, Larry Moczygemba, D.V.M., and Victoria Whitehead will continue their work with the Board, which aims to oversee and improve veterinary and equine dental services across the Lone Star State. Each brings a unique skill set to the table, with backgrounds spanning from veterinary practice to legal expertise and education.
Moczygemba, hailing from Berclair, is not only a seasoned vet but also comes equipped with impressive credentials that include ownership of a multi-vet practice and academic achievements from Texas A&M and University of Nebraska–Lincoln, as announced by the governor's office; his background in both veterinary science and epidemiology will prove valuable in a role that oversees such a broad range of animal health concerns. His colleague, Sue Allen, offers a rich history in veterinary technology education, pivotal for nurturing the next generation of Texan veterinary professionals.
Allen’s reappointment speaks to her depth of experience in both the practical and academic realms of veterinary science, her qualifications including a lengthy tenure with McLennan Community College and an associate's degree from Texas State Technical College, ensuring that she remains a lynchpin for vet tech education in the state. Whitehead, though not directly involved in veterinary services, brings a legal and organizational proficiency to the board that is crucial for navigating the intersection of law, policy, and animal welfare as shown by her successful career and educational background which includes political science and law degrees from Texas Tech University.
