In an effort to increase safety at a Guilford County intersection, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) announced plans to install an all-way stop, with work commencing today, per an original release from NCDOT. The installation, originally set for January 15, was pushed back due to unfavorable weather conditions and is now expected to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., assuming the climate cooperates.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the intersection of N.C. 62 and Coltrane Mill Road will get new stop signs and pavement markings. Vehicles on N.C. 62 previously did not stop here. Motorists should expect short delays and proceed cautiously through the work zone.
Officials say all-way stops are an effective and cost-efficient way to improve intersection safety and reduce severe accidents. NCDOT provides guidelines for navigating all-way stops on their website.
At all-way stops, the first vehicle to arrive has the right of way. If multiple vehicles arrive at the same time, the car on the right goes first. Opposing vehicles may proceed simultaneously or turn right, but left turns must yield to straight-moving traffic. Drivers should use signals and watch for pedestrians. Updated travel info is at DriveNC.gov or via NCDOT social media.
