Harford County officials are calling for an investigation and the resignation of Schools Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson following reports of a theft during a taxpayer-funded education conference. The controversy has been spurred by a 911 call made from New Orleans in April 2024, in which the caller, identified as Sean Bulson, reports items valued at around $8,000 stolen, including electronics issued by Harford County Public Schools. This incident, coupled with other reported issues under Bulson's leadership, has raised concerns among county officials.
An audio recording obtained by FOX Baltimore revealed Bulson making a call to New Orleans Police to report a theft, detailing how he let someone in his hotel room who then allegedly took various items while he slept. These items reportedly included a wallet, a laptop, two phones, an Apple watch, and an I-Pad. Despite the police dispatch, there seems to be no follow-up from the alleged victim; no report was filed with the New Orleans Police.
Dr. Bulson's conduct has increasingly come under scrutiny, with reports by Project Baltimore detailing his oversight during instances where school employees faced serious legal charges while employed. Harford County State Delegate Lauren Arikan and County Executive Bob Cassilly are among the officials calling for Bulson's immediate resignation. Cassilly, asserting that Bulson "violated the public trust," and Giangiordano have voiced their opinions on the matter, WMAR2 News detailed.
Board of Education Vice President Lauren Paige has insisted on a "full and impartial investigation" into the claims, stating, "These claims must be addressed with the seriousness they deserve," as reported by WMAR2 News. However, to date, Dr. Bulson faces no charges, and no evidence of misconduct has been formally presented. The Harford County school official's current contract is scheduled to expire in 2026, and he was recognized as Maryland Superintendent of the Year in 2023.
