A chilling act of domestic violence shattered the New Year's Eve silence in Hempfield Township, where a man is now charged with homicide after allegedly catching his wife with another man. According to WTAE, Robert Naugle, 30, is accused of fatally shooting James Thomas multiple times at a Hugh Street residence, shortly before the clock struck 8:30 p.m.
Reportedly, Naugle brazenly called Westmoreland County 911 and confessed, "I walked in on my wife with another man, and I killed him." Details provided by the TribLIVE reveal that after Naugle entered the home unannounced and discovered Thomas with his wife, he used a Glock 19 pistol to shoot Thomas roughly ten times. The State Police in Greensburg responded to the call and took Naugle into custody without incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found the body of Thomas in the home's basement, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. During a subsequent interview with police, Naugle admitted to shooting Thomas numerous times and checking his pulse afterward, ensuring that he was deceased. Emily Naugle, Robert's wife, had informed authorities that her husband had moved out just two days prior to the incident and that Thomas was merely a friend.
Following the apprehension, a weapon matching the description of the one used in the killing was seized from the scene. Emily had previously canceled the evening plans she had with Robert, but he arrived uninvited after observing another vehicle in the driveway. Naugle unlocked the basement door, encountered Thomas and his wife, and subsequently drew his firearm and fired on Thomas, the affidavit stated. A Jan. 14 preliminary hearing is scheduled for Naugle, who was denied bail and is currently held at Westmoreland County Prison.
