Houston's weather this week is looking to break records with its spring-like temperatures and high humidity, a stark contrast to the typical January chill. The National Weather Service forecasts that today, after patchy morning fog clears, residents can expect mostly cloudy skies that will gradually become sunny and may experience a high near 79 degrees, with the southwest wind blowing at 5 to 10 mph. Meanwhile, tonight, the patchy fog is set to return after 11 p.m., dipping temperatures to a low around 64 degrees.
Despite the foggy start, Houstonians are in for unseasonably warm conditions, per FOX 26 Houston, with temperatures climbing into the low 80s and aiming to ascend past the daily record of 80°, this warmth is accompanied by high humidity making the mornings muggy and possibly triggering more patchy fog overnight, and while the inland areas will enjoy some sunshine coastal communities may be pinned down by persistent sea fog, through parts of the day.
As the week unfolds, the heat is expected to persist, with Wednesday seeing areas of fog before 10 a.m. and partly sunny skies thereafter, peaking at around 80 degrees. By nighttime, rising clouds will keep things warm with a low near 67 degrees. Moving into Thursday, residents should prepare for a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon, and continuing gusty winds – potentially as high as 25 mph.
Looking ahead to the weekend, change is on the horizon with a cold front set to sweep through on Friday. This front heralds a significant shift, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms and a notable drop in temperatures. FOX 26 Houston reports that following the cold front's passage, the city should brace for "much cooler and drier air" that will dominate the weather pattern, with highs reverting to the low 60s and lows plunging to the low 40s, just in time for the Houston Marathon.
By the time Sunday rolls around, the area will experience partly sunny skies and highs around 61 degrees, helping to ease Houston residents back into more familiar winter temperatures. The start of the next week will maintain similar conditions, offering partly sunny days with highs near 61, solidifying the return to seasonable weather.
