Houston is seeing increased protests against Immigration Customs Enforcement amid national concerns over federal immigration policies. The National Organization for Women is organizing a peaceful demonstration on Friday, following a prior protest at Houston City Council on Tuesday where about 100 people demanded the city end its cooperation with ICE, according to Click2Houston.
NOW’s upcoming protest in Houston is part of ongoing local actions responding to federal immigration raids and concerns over ICE operations. The organization stated on Facebook, "From local protests at City Hall to marches condemning federal immigration raids and deadly ICE actions, our community has shown powerful resistance and we’re keeping up the pressure. This is a peaceful demonstration for justice, dignity, and due process for all people," as reported by CW39.
The protests have intensified following fatal ICE actions in Minneapolis, with demonstrators urging Houston to end any alliance with the agency. Despite ICE citing arrests of over 3,500 undocumented individuals, including serious criminals, community activists continue to call attention to the impact on immigrant families and demand justice and due process.
