Over 100 law enforcement professionals converged at the Orange County Government Center on Jan. 27 to strategize the fight against crime in New York's Hudson Valley. Notable attendees included U.S. Attorneys from the Southern and Northern Districts of New York and leadership from the FBI, HSI, DEA, ATF, along with District Attorneys and Sheriffs from several counties, as per a report by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
The symposium focused on a collaborative approach to tackling pervasive issues such as armed criminal activity, narcotics trafficking, and child exploitation. Among the discussions were case studies detailing successful multi-agency operations, emphasizing the need for greater cooperation. "It is invaluable to hear directly from our state and local partners," U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton said in a statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, highlighting the collective commitment to improving public safety.
In addition to sharing intelligence and coordinating efforts to address "hot spots" of criminal activity, the assembly also prioritized engaging with communities to understand and reflect their needs in enforcement strategies. Officials from several different agencies echoed the sentiment that public safety transcends district and county boundaries, advocating for the robust partnerships this symposium sought to foster.
"Public safety does not stop at district or county lines," said Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, John A. Sarcone III, according to a statement to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Moreover, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler stressed the importance of collaboration, "In order to best protect the residents of Orange County from these ever-present dangers, we must work with our law enforcement partners, near and far," he told the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
Leaders from the FBI, DEA, and HSI shared sentiments on the value of this historic meeting, acknowledging the power of joint efforts in tackling crime effectively. Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albany Field Office Craig Tremaroli expressed his gratitude for the commitment demonstrated at the symposium, betting on inter-agency collaboration to keep communities safe. With goals such as creating a fentanyl-free America, these agencies have displayed a united front against the forces that threaten regional peace and security.
