An Islip man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a narcotics and weapons trafficking operation involving fentanyl, cocaine, and firearms, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. In August 2025, 32-year-old Travis Austin pled guilty to multiple charges, including Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree and Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Third Degree. On Tuesday, Justice Steven Pilewski of the Supreme Court issued his sentence.
The investigation into Austin’s activities identified a series of large-scale illegal transactions in Suffolk County between June and September 2024, involving both narcotics and firearms, including a loaded pistol and arrangements for the sale of four additional pistols. According to Suffolk County District Attorney, the sentence demonstrates the office’s focus on enforcing laws related to illegal firearms and drugs.
Authorities arrested Austin on October 1, 2024, at a Starbucks in Islandia, where he intended to sell five firearms, as determined during the investigation and confirmed in his guilty plea. A search of his vehicle uncovered five unserialized handguns with 3D-printed components, multiple cellphones connected to narcotics and firearms trafficking, fentanyl, and cocaine in quantities meeting felony thresholds. A storage unit rented by Austin also contained drug paraphernalia and two kilo presses used for shaping narcotics.
In addition to his prison sentence, Austin pled guilty to multiple drug and weapon-related charges, including three counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, six counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, and six counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He was represented by attorney Chase Brown, Esq. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristen E. L. Yeamans of the Violent Crime Enterprises Bureau, with investigative support from the Suffolk County Police Department’s District Attorney Squad.
