The victim has been identified as Alvin Dabney Jr. He was wounded at his home in the 2100 block of Jackson Avenue, then taken by New Orleans EMS to a hospital, where he died roughly two weeks after the Jan. 12 shooting, officials said.

Officers were called just before 7 p.m. on Jan. 12 to the 2100 block of Jackson Avenue after a reported burglary and found Dabney suffering from gunshot wounds, according to NOLA.com. New Orleans EMS took him to a hospital, and the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later identified him as 58-year-old Alvin Dabney Jr.
