In a recent social media post, the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD) shared insights into their operational intensity this past December, highlighting a staggering amount of calls that kept their teams on constant alert. The post, which presents a roundup of their activities, indicates JFRD crews responded to over 15,400 calls over the course of the month, as reported on their official Facebook page.
The breakdown offered by the department shows an array of emergencies and services, including an impressive 12,210 EMS-related interventions. In keeping with the demands of a bustling city, fire calls added up to 2,015, while public assistance, which includes non-emergency aid, accounted for another 1,175 cases. Stakeholders looking to measure the department's capacity might find interest in December's busiest units: Rescue 36 and Engine 36 handled a combined total of 801 calls—a testament to the city's relentless pace and the responders' unwavering commitment.
The intensity of JFRD's December operations reflects not just the sheer volume of emergencies, but also the intricate fabric of a city that relies heavily on its first responders. Notable units, such as Ladder 50, attended to 217 calls, Squad 4 a close 372, while Tanker 52 contributed to the overall effort with 71 calls. As the new year begins, JFRD’s message is clear: they remain ready to serve and protect the people of Jacksonville with the same commitment shown in December.
