As the city of Jacksonville welcomed the arrival of 2026, the local sheriff's office took to social media with a vital reminder for revelers. Their post underscored a message of responsibility, notably when it comes to the consumption of alcohol during New Year's Eve celebrations. The straightforward stance of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office: "do not drink and get behind the wheel of a car."
In their message, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office harked back to the previous year's statistics, "During last year’s holiday, we arrested 17 people for DUI." They expressed a desire to see that number reduced to zero, pointing out the gravity of the decision to drive under the influence. It's not just the individual behind the wheel who faces the consequences, but possibly an unsuspecting and undeserving public who might share the roads with them.
Officer Laquidara and other DUI officers were notably on high alert during the festivities. The emphasis was clear, those who chose to dismiss the warnings and risk driving after drinking would face the consequences of their actions. The post made it clear, "Your decision to drink and drive doesn’t just affect you." It's a plea for communal consideration—to recognize that one person's "bad choice" could irrevocably harm another family.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office didn't just leave it at a sobering reminder. They also extended New Year's wishes to the community, saying, "Happy New Year’s Eve, Jacksonville. We’ll see you next year!"
