After over three decades, a lengthy chapter of pain and pursuit of justice has come to a close for a Renton family. Jerome Frank Jones, 55, was sentenced to life in prison for the 1994 murders of Stacy Falcon-Dewey and her 3-year-old son Jacob, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle. The victims were found on a deserted road in South Renton, victims of a gruesome crime that went unsolved until DNA evidence finally pointed to Jones.
According to a statement obtained by KING 5, years of tireless detective work culminated in a verdict where Jones was convicted of two counts of aggravated first-degree murder. Renton Police Chief Jon Schuldt expressed his hope that the sentencing would bring some measure of comfort to the victim's family, knowing that law enforcement never relented in their pursuit of closure for this tragic case.
The defense, however, has indicated a resolution on their part is far from reached. "Mr. Jones maintains his innocence," said defense attorney Miranda Maurmann, in a statement obtained by KING 5. Maurmann spoke on how the DNA evidence that served as the keystone for the prosecution's case had its limitations, signaling an intent to appeal the conviction.
This sentencing adds a life sentence to Jones's existing prison term for a separate 1995 murder in California. The gravity of his extended criminal history is highlighted by an additional murder in California and several convictions for crimes committed while incarcerated, according to information from KING 5. The cruel details of the 1994 case, with evidence indicating that Jones may have shot three-year-old Jacob in front of his mother Stacy before killing her, emphasize the brutality of crime in question.
