Johnston County has tallied up the baby names for 2025, and it looks like there are a few repeat chart-toppers along with some newcomers. According to a social media post from the Johnston County Government, there were 1,005 boys and 1,010 girls added to the county's population last year, making a grand total of 2,015 births. And what monikers are prevailing among these mini residents? The top five names for each gender have been unveiled, showcasing the favorites of Johnston County parents.
Holding joint first place for girls, Mia and Sophia each graced 11 babies, with parents evidently still smitten by these names. Olivia wasn’t far behind, snagged by 10 sets of parents for their little ones. The names Camila, Emma, Lainey, and Valentina tied for third place, each being chosen eight times, while Ava and Isla were picked seven times, landing them in fourth place. Rounding up the top five were Charlotte, Daisy, Isabella, and Reagan, with six mentions each. On the boy's side, Liam took the top spot with 20 occurrences. Noah followed with 17, and William was a choice for 12 new parents. Elias had 11 mentions, and Mateo finished the top five lineup with an even 10.
"My staff and I always enjoy looking back at previous years to see the most popular names of babies born in our county," said Craig Olive, Johnston County’s Registrar of Deeds. "It’s fascinating to see which names continually stay in the top spots while others just make a one- or two-time appearance," as mentioned on the Johnston County Government post. Olive shared how the ebb and flow of baby naming trends provides an interesting snapshot of cultural influences, parental hopes, and perhaps a smidge of the celebrity effect.
