Chaos erupted in the normally quiet streets of Oakley as juveniles were involved in a harrowing incident involving assault, kidnapping, and attempted murder. Sources from the City of Oakley - Local Government social media post recount the series of events that led to an intense police pursuit, culminating in the capture of two juvenile suspects.
At about 1:08 am yesterday, Oakley officers responded to a possible kidnapping and a shooting incident. Arriving at the corner of Rubens Way and East Cypress Road, they found several individuals, including juvenile parties, and a male victim suffering from a grazing gunshot wound to the head. The investigation that followed painted a vivid picture of juvenile delinquency and violence, as two young adults and a juvenile female initially picked up two juvenile males, who later turned aggressors over a denied request to purchase marijuana. Upon the refusal, tensions escalated quickly, leading to the female driver and her companion being taken at gunpoint and forced out of a vehicle.
The male victim, previously having exited the vehicle, witnessed the scene and attempted to intercept the carjacker. In a desperate twist, one of the suspects fired several shots, striking the male victim with a grazing shot to the head. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies, aiding the Oakley Police, spotted the suspects' vehicle speeding along Highway 4. A high-speed pursuit ensued, stretching to Orinda, where the vehicle became disabled, and the two male suspects were finally apprehended.
The seriousness of the charges faced by the juveniles reflects the gravity of their actions – attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and carjacking. Meanwhile, the injured male, his head wound superficial, received treatment and was released. The Oakley Police Department is requesting that anyone with information about the incident contact 925-625-8060, citing case 26-95.
