Kaua‘i residents enrolled in the county’s Wireless Emergency Notification System will receive a test alert on the evening of January 26 between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., delivered via mobile devices, landlines, or email. The alert will be clearly marked as a test and will include an unsubscribe option, according to the County of Kauai.
The test aims to ensure the system can effectively communicate during emergencies, including natural disasters. The recent update now integrates 4-1-1 data to expand the reach of alerts to more residents, as reported by the County of Kauai.
“This test represents an important step in strengthening Kaua‘i’s emergency notification network,” said Elton Ushio, KEMA Administrator. Wireless Emergency Notification System works with sirens, Wireless Emergency Alerts, and the Emergency Alert System. Residents who are not registered can sign up on the WENS Alerts Sign Up Page and choose specialized notifications if needed. After the January 26 exercise, KEMA will review the results to improve the system. Questions or requests for accommodations for persons with disabilities can be made through KEMA’s website, phone, or email, as stated by the County of Kauai.
