On January 19, 2026, Kingsport will host the 26th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade, an event underscoring the community's ongoing efforts to promote racial harmony and reflect upon the legacy of Dr. King through its theme, "ANSWER TO RACISM IS THE LOVE OF CHRIST" & "LOVE MORE IN 2026; CHOOSE TO LOVE AND NOT TO HATE." reported by City of Kingsport local publication.
The parade is slated to begin at noon and will proceed from the intersection of E. Sullivan Street and Center Street to the New Kingsport City Hall at 415 Broad Street, asking participants to assemble at 11:15 a.m. Parking will be available near or around the City Hall, accommodating those entering vehicles or planning to march the route on foot.
In addition to celebrating Dr. King's life and message, the event will also serve as a kickoff for a quarterly service event, ranging from January 19 through April 30. This service component, known as "Putting Babies First," aims to support infants in need by providing diapers and wipes at an estimated cost of $12 per baby. Donations are encouraged and can be made out to Joshua Generation Int'l, Inc. (JGII), with details available on the City of Kingsport website.
Following the parade has concluded, there will be a community luncheon hosted by New Vision Youth. This MLK Community Unity Luncheon will take place at 1:00 p.m., in the Riverview Community Room, adjacent to the Pickleball Courts on Wheatley Street. For those interested in attending the luncheon, they can reach out to Johnnie Mae Swagerty of New Vision Youth for more details. The parade's point of contact is Bishop Ronnie Wayne Collins (JGII), reachable for further information regarding participation or inquiries about the day's proceedings.
