The Lafayette Police Department recently apprehended a suspect on charges of possession of stolen property and drug-related offenses. The arrest, the culmination of a collaborative effort between a business owner and the police, followed the discovery of stolen goods being returned to a store for consignment.
According to a social media post by the Lafayette Police Department, the entire incident began on December 27, 2025, when an officer took a report from a store owner in the 1000 block of Oak Hill Road. The suspect, a 50-year-old individual from Oakland, attempted to quietly slip back into the store last Friday, only to be arrested by the responding officers. They were subsequently booked into the Martinez Detention Facility with multiple charges hanging over their head.
The store's owner had originally reported the stolen property, leading to a follow-up investigation that enabled the authorities to link the items with the Oakland resident. The effectiveness of the owner's vigilance was highlighted by the Lafayette Police Department as an example of a "Community Partnership," reminding the public to "see something, say something," thereby echoing a larger narrative of civic responsibility. For emergencies, citizens are reminded to call 9-1-1; for non-emergencies, the provided number is 925-284-5010.
