Las Vegas celebrated King Week with a vibrant Food Truck Festival Community Resource Fair at the Historic Westside School last Saturday, where locals savored a diverse array of food and tapped into a wealth of community resources, NEWS 3LV reported. Dione Gantt, Chairwoman for Taste the Dream, captured the spirit of the event, telling NEWS 3LV, "We brought it to the westside because we wanted to bring it to the soul and the heart of the community right here in the west side of Las Vegas."

This congregation of joy and purpose was also an homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s enduring dream of economic justice and coincides with the series of activities leading up to the 44th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade today, Zarinah Washington, President of the Eta Chi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., underscored its significance to NEWS 3LV, "Today is all about honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, his dream for economic justice, and providing access for our local business owners and community members to get resources in the communities."

Families from across the valley joined the festival, not only to delight in the local culinary offerings and music but also to connect with vital services and to honor the civil rights leader's life and dream, according to a report by KTNV. Mary Long, a local who attended with her family, told KTNV about her favorite part of the event, "Well, coming and socializing and being with, you know, the community," and articulated the importance of such gatherings, "So that the children could see, you know, what is going on in the community and everything."

Furthermore, Sparkle Williams highlighted the festival's role as a communal hub, where "Whether it's Medicaid, health, professional, everybody is pouring just a little something into each person that is out here," she expressed in a KTNV interview. Echoing the day's broader intentions one festivalgoer imparted a poignant reminder, "If you don't know your history, you are bound to repeat it." While the Food Truck festivities have concluded, Las Vegans have other avenues to partake in the King Week celebrations including a wealth mindset conference and an interfaith service before the parade.
