A Las Vegas youth soccer coach, Sergio Reyes Rojas, is poised to face a jury, having waived his right to a preliminary hearing in a case where he stands accused of sexually assaulting a teenager, a move that escalates the legal proceedings to the Clark County District Court for his arraignment on January 26, according to News 3 LV.
Last month, Rojas, who is 44, was arrested under the grim suspicion of an assault against a child under 16, the victim, a 14-year-old girl, alleged that Rojas gave her a lift one November evening and ended up serving her an alcoholic cocktail, after which she purportedly fell asleep and awoke to the harrowing ordeal of being sexually assaulted by him, as detailed in an arrest report obtained by News 3 LV.
The coach's attorney vouchsafed to News 3 LV their viewpoint, offering a theory of incongruities within the case against Reyes Rojas, they say, citing the alleged victim's account as not adding up, even as the family of the victim has so far refrained from public commentary.
Further investigation has been prompted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which is actively seeking any additional individuals with potential claims against Reyes Rojas, who previously helmed Las Vegas Diversity FC and was involved in multiple youth sports programs, this outreach, which includes an open call for tips from colleagues and league officials alike, has the objective of unearthing more evidence, anyone with relevant information is urged to approach the LVMPD Sexual Assault Detail or through Crime Stoppers, if anonymity is a necessity, and support for survivors is also being provided by Signs of HOPE and the LVMPD victim services unit, as reported by Hoodline.
